Abstract

Tampaknya Kata ulama muslimdan sarjana Barat memiliki cakupan yang sangat luas. Namun dernikian mudah-mudahan kalimat yang berkonotasi umum itu, maksudnya adalah khusus, dimana yang dimaksud dengan sarjana barat adalah orientalis. Meskipun bahasan ini menyebutkan tentang kajian hadis di kalangan ulama muslim dan sarjana barat atau lebih tegasnya diantara Ahli hadis dan Orientalis, namun tulisan ini akan lebih menitik beratkanbahasan tentang kajian hadis di kalangan Ulama (Ahli hadis) dari pada kajian hadis di kalangan Orientalis. Hal itu, karena dalam kajian hadis di kalangan ulama terdapat hal-hal yang dianggap ''rawan," baik dalam menetapkan autentisitas hadis maupun dalam menetapkan otoritasnya sebagai ajaran Islam.
